Winners of the 2026 Houska Prize

At this year’s Houska Prize, members of Forschung Austria swept the top three spots in the “Non-University Research” category with their exciting projects.

At this year’s Houska Prize—Austria’s most prestigious private award for applied research, presented by the B&C Private Foundation—members of Forschung Austria (AIT Austrian Institute of Technology & JOANNEUM RESEARCH) swept all three podium places in the “Non-University Research” category with exciting projects. This is a strong testament to the innovative strength of non-university research in Austria.

1st Place: VOLTERA – AIT Austrian Institute of Technology

AI-supported real-time analysis of power grids for the secure integration of renewable energies—a central building block for stable energy systems of the future.

2nd place: JOANNEUM RESEARCH PyzoFlex® – Joanneum Research MATERIALS

A novel sensor technology for flexible, movable, and curved surfaces, highly relevant for wearables, soft robotics, and smart manufacturing.

3rd place: Green Manikin – AIT Austrian Institute of Technology

An AI-based mixed-reality solution that elevates first aid and emergency training to a quality level close to real-world scenarios.

These awards underscore how crucial cutting-edge applied research is to the competitiveness of our economic and technological hub.
